From 18 to 20 February 2026, a Regional Training on the Care Economy was held in Istanbul, organized by the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia. The training brought together representatives of public institutions, academia, and women’s organizations from the Western Balkans, with the aim of strengthening national and regional capacities in the field of the care economy.
Through interactive sessions, practical exercises, and peer exchange, participants enhanced their knowledge on unpaid care work, its measurement and valuation, and the links between the care economy, labour markets, social protection systems, and economic development. Special focus was placed on applying the UN Women Care Economy Module in national contexts and fostering further policy dialogue and reforms that contribute to gender equality and sustainable development.
The training is expected to contribute to stronger regional cooperation and improved integration of care economy perspectives into public policies and development strategies.
