SeConS participated in the preparation of the Gender Equality Index for the Republic of Serbia 2024, in cooperation with the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, UN Women, the Cabinet of the Minister without Portfolio responsible for coordinating activities in the areas of gender equality, prevention of violence against women, and the economic and political empowerment of women, as well as the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).
The project supported data collection and processing, calculation of the Gender Equality Index, and preparation of the national report. The report covers the six core domains of the Index — work, money, knowledge, time, power and health — and includes a thematic focus on the gender dimensions of time use.
SeConS’s activities included:
- developing the methodology in line with the EIGE methodological framework;
- coordinating data collection and processing with the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia;
- compiling and analysing the data required to calculate the Index;
- calculating the overall Index and its domains and subdomains;
- preparing the national report in Serbian and English;
- analysing gender inequalities in time use, including paid and unpaid work, leisure time, childcare and family responsibilities; and
- formulating evidence-based conclusions to support more effective gender equality policies and measures.
The Index provides a comprehensive overview of progress and persistent gender inequalities in Serbia and enables comparison with the European Union and other Western Balkan countries.
