A four-year project entitled “She Knows”, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Impact Hub Belgrade in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Serbia), the Center for Development of Jablanica and Pčinja Districts (CRJPO), and Erste Bank, was officially launched in Belgrade on June 20.
The aim of this project is to enhance women’s economic inclusion by improving employment, self-employment, and business opportunities while reducing barriers and gender biases in the workplace.
At the start of the event, the speeches were delivered by Brooke Isham, USAID Serbia Mission Director, Stefan Lazarević, President of AmCham Serbia, Tomislav Žigmanov, Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, and Andrijana Jovanović, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy.
On this occasion, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality presided over a panel discussion entitled “Fostering an inclusive work environment that empowers women to progress”. The findings of the American Chamber of Commerce’s research on “Women’s empowerment policies, initiatives, and challenges in the business world” were introduced at the event.
The SeConS Development Initiative Group presented the findings of a desk analysis on the labor market position of women from the Jablanica and Pčinja districts. The desk analysis involved reviewing and analyzing data from the Labor Force Survey for 2022, the Statistics of Registered Employment, and the National Employment Service (NES). The analysis aimed to offer preliminary insights into the status of women in the labor market in the Jablanica and Pčinja districts. The statistics indicate that 37% of women between the ages of 45 and 64 are inactive, in contrast to 20% of males in the same age range. The preliminary results of a field survey conducted by SeConS in collaboration with the research agency Smart Plus Research on unemployed and inactive women from these two districts were also presented. As previously announced, a study on labor market supply and demand will be available in the fall.
