The project entitled “Bridging the Gender Gap: Understanding and Promoting Girls’ Interest and Participation in ICT and STEM Education and Careers in Serbia” is implemented by UNICEF Serbia with the support of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications and in cooperation with the SeConS – Development Initiative Group.
The objective of the project is to explore the key factors that influence girls’ and young women’s interest in education and careers in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). Particular emphasis is placed on identifying gender stereotypes, sociocultural norms, and the obstacles that girls and young women encounter. By analyzing the current situation in Serbia, the project aims to identify opportunities for enhancing their participation in the ICT sector and to provide recommendations for enhancing gender equality and inclusion in this domain.
SeConS will conduct qualitative research through interviews and focus groups in various educational and professional contexts. The sample will comprise girls from primary and secondary schools, female students majoring in ICT, and young women already employed in the ICT sector. Furthermore, decision-makers and education specialists will be engaged to provide a thorough insight into the factors affecting the educational and career decisions of young women in Serbia. The anticipated outcomes of this research are intended to contribute to developing new initiatives and policies that facilitate equitable access to educational and professional opportunities for girls and young women in the ICT sector.
